For Matt, glass isn’t just a craft - it’s a deeply personal connection. His journey began in 2007, at a time of profound loss, when a cherished piece of glassware inherited from a family member sparked an enduring fascination. What started as a way to fill a void quickly became a passion that’s been burning bright over the years. By 2009, Matt was working borosilicate glass, experimenting and refining his skills with every new project. In 2019, he brought a new dimension to his work by adding a lathe to his studio, opening the door to even greater precision and complexity. Matt doesn’t lock himself into a single signature look—he moves between forms and ideas—but some his main focuses are clean precise clear seals, and silver and gold fume work. A whisper of precious metal vapor on hot glass can bloom into color-shifting depth that never stops rewarding a second look. It’s chemistry, heat, and timing working in sync.
Born and raised in California’s Sonoma County wine country, Matt draws inspiration from the beauty and flow of nature, glass pipe styles and techniques both old school and modern, and the often unseen work of scientific glassblowers. Each piece is a unique blend of form and function - a reflection of countless hours of dedication, problem-solving, and pure creative flow. When you hold one of Matt’s creations, you’re not just getting glass - you’re holding a story, shaped by resilience, fueled by passion, and brought to life by fire.
